Its no news that tech giants like Google has been much interested in the “Internet of Things” . The latest to join the bandwagon are Samsung, Intel and Dell all of whom are collaborating to create new standards in what in the long run might be the base for smart homes. Google’s acquisition of Nest Laboratories earlier this year saw the opening up of a huge market rightly called “Internet of Things”.
Automated homes are nearing reality and this time Samsung along with Dell and Intel has introduced Open Interconnect Consortium that is said to take on an already existent similar initiative called the Allseen Alliance which has partnering biggies such as Microsoft, Lg, Qualcomm and Panasonic among others.
Doug Fisher, general manager of Intel’s Software and Services Group, said the new framework will “address security and other issues not adequately handled by the AllSeen group.”
The queue of things that would require connectivity to a network for a smart home like situation to happen will need a good internet connection among other factors which might even make developers think about the level of security that can be provided to transferred data.
Though these companies have joined hands to build automated homes each one of them are hell bent on developing gadgets that would ultimately be compatible with only their products. Like a Sony smartphone can be used along with on;y a Sony smart TV. A huge drawback this, and days are not far when people are gonna sell smart homes branded with tech biggie names. A Sony smart home could probably be reality in a few years.
