YouTube’s new head of engineering

YouTube welcomes it’s new head of engineering, Venkat Panchapakesan, who was earlier heading Google Apps. Shishir Mehrotra who was earlier leading the YouTube team has moved on to more of an advisory role. This change is pretty significant since YouTube’s head of engineering over see’s user experience, monetization and of course product engineering. Panchapakesan will now be reporting to Susan Wojcicki, YouTube’s boss.

Before joining Google in 2010, Panchapakesan had been an Entrepreneur in Residence(EIR) at Greylock Partners. Further back, he spent a decade at Yahoo! running it’s audience technology group.

Re/Code tells us,

YouTube confirmed the move, but declined to comment further. Still, it’s reasonable to assume that we might see more of these in the coming months, as Wojcicki figures out what she wants to change at the world’s biggest video site.
