US thumps Russia to be the largest natural gas and oil resource producer

The United States of America has always been ahead of most countries out there and its time that the scaled new frontiers in a field that has long been the forte of USSR and the Arabian countries alike . Estimates from the Energy Information Administration show that Oil and natural gas production has been on the rise for a while in the US and that they have been rising above the top countries like Russia and Saudi Arabia.

“Total petroleum and natural gas hydrocarbon production estimates for the United States and Russia for 2011 and 2012 were roughly equivalent — within 1 quadrillion Btu of one another. In 2013, however, the production estimates widen out, with the United States expected to outproduce Russia by five quadrillion Btu,” the commission was quoted saying.

Thanks to the newest techniques such as hydraulic fracturing and hydraulic drilling the superpower has been able to tap the riches from the shale rock formations concentrated in North Dakota and Texas. They had moved ahead of Russia in the natural gas sector last year but this the first time since 1982 that they have achieved the feat on both the natural gas and oil front.

Russia has the largest resources of shale formations in the World but their techniques have majorly been old school promoting them to lag behind the US for the past two years. Most of the US’s new resources have been from the Western parts such as Dakota and Texas. While in Texas oil production has doubled, in Dakota it has tripled along with places such as Oklahoma, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado.
