Terrain Home, new Android home screen app from Samsung

Samsung Accelerator has released a new home replacement app, called Terrain Home. An application that changes the visual appearance of the terminal to always provide the information you need, when you need it, from the home screen. Terrain basically looks like a mish-mash of Google Now with a few features taken from existing third-party launchers, but using it is a different experience.

Once installed, Terrain shows a list of Google Now-style cards that act as shortcuts to various apps and functions.Terrain has three main features, accessible through three icons displayed on the homescreen or through swipes from the left, right, and the bottom.

A swipe to the right will get you to the Smart Sidebar, which reminds us of the Google Now cards UI. But this one is a bit more detailed and will allow you to even view your Facebook feeds along with the usual weather and calendar tasks.A swipe to left will take you to the apps drawer,it is for quick navigation, with a search function and alphabetical indexing.Swiping from bottom will take you to the search screen where you can search for anything local like contacts, apps on the phone and even online.

Dwipal Desai, founder and CEO of Terrain to Recode,

Search with Android is Web first. We wanted search that is phone first.

The app was developed by Dwipal Desai at Samsung Accelerator. Samsung calls Terrain Cliff Notes for your phone”. It’s built on HTML5 and Samsung has an open SDK for it. Any developers who want to add a card to Terrain, can sign-up now for an SDK, which is said to arrive in coming few weeks.

The beta version of Terrain Home application is sized at 7.4MB and requires Android 4.1 and later OS versions to run. Terrain is now available for free in the Google Play.
