Seems like everyone is jumping on the low-end phones bandwagon! It started with the Moto G, and the phones just keep rolling. India has a large user base willing to buy low-end to mid-range phones. The phone will be powered by the Firefox OS with Spreadtrum’s entry-level smartphone chipsets.
Firefox has partnered up with Intex and Spice to manufacture these ultra low-cost devices.Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, Intex’s head of mobile business, says this is a move to push Indian customers from feature phones to smartphones.
The platform will give us an edge in upgrading buyers from feature phones to smartphones while making it affordable for the mass market. This will propel our devices to be much more than a way to use the Web, but take the engagement further and develop the Web as a mobile platform.
It would be interesting to watch how low-end devices fold out in the US, where smartphones are already a norm. Firefox also revealed that ZTE Open II and ALCATEL ONETOUCH Fire E that were announced at MWC, will be available in the coming months.
