Apple announces new Programming language – Swift

Apple just announced a new programming language, moving away from the age old Objective-C. The programming language is called Swift, and is native to Cocoa and Cocoa Touch.

Swift is the parallel language that Apple is bringing up into Xcode for developing iOS and Mac apps, alongside Objective-C. Swift is a fast, Modern, Safe and Interactive programming language that the company is making it available to the developers pretty soon.

Here are some of the pointers from the Keynote:

  • RC4 Encryption
  • Easy to build
  • Built with LLVM compiler
  • Has built in Optimizer
  • Has the same runtime as Objective-C

Apple has also put up a dedicated page for Swift on their developer portal. You can take a look at Swift and get started with it right here.
