With the dawn of iOS 7, the world saw one of the most complex and data intensive technology that the consumers will be made to use. And it was called iBeacon. This new piece of technology will track your location in a particular area, your movements towards objects and other details, and gives the advertisers the ability to send a message back to you based on your location.
It doesn’t stop there. Google is now releasing Nearby. A new feature that works like the iBeacons, tracking everything you do in a given area.
ReadWrite has an extensive article about this issue, and how companies are tracking you, and the fact that you can’t do anything about it:
Smartphone features like iBeacons and Nearby have marketers (and those that serve them) salivating. Urban Airship is just one of the companies going whole hog into iBeacons. Adobe has invested heavily in products for marketers over the last couple of years and has joined the proximity marketing bandwagon, as have companies like Qualcomm. Billions of dollars in research and development from a diverse set of giant companies have gone into tracking you with your smartphone and tying it to your browsing and shopping habits.
