You are going to love this game. If you loved playing Betaworks’ Dots, which aligns closely with what Steve Jobs said during his commencement speech, then you should try TwoDots. TwoDots is BetaWorks’ sequel of the original Dots game for iOS and Android (The Android version will be out in weeks). The game has a very interesting gameplay, without the time limit. So you don’t have to rush into connecting the dots, looking at your phone.
Back in 2013, Betaworks released a very addictive iOS game called Dots. The game was way too simple that even my niece would pick up the phone and play. All that you had to do was to connect dots in straight lines, but not diagonally. The game was a massive hit, and it went viral with people who love to get high-scores. That is all that Dots offered. Connect similar color dots to get points within the given timeframe.
But today, the developers have taken the game to next level. The game is now mature, and has levels, with different clever ways to keep you busy, and make you an addict, ruining your personal and professional life, and also stress. I have been playing this game for the past one hour, and boy I’m addicted to it now.
TwoDots is literally the same game that comes with a lot of exciting challenges that the player has to complete. You will have to connect the dots of the same colour, and if you make a square, then you clear off all the dots of the same colour. Once you install and open the game, you are greeted with a welcome screen, and the music is so amazing, that it will make you pause for a while before you could tap anything on screen.
While in Dots, the target was to clear off as many colours as possible in a given time. But here, its pretty different. You are given a target, to clear off, say 20 red dots, 15 green dots and 2 anchors (Yes. They do have new stuff other than the coloured dots). You will have to complete the target with the given number of swipes (moves).
One of the most interesting part of the game is the complete experience. The music that plays in the background is super cool, that it is not disturbing, but still makes you concentrate on the game. While I’m not sure if the company has done some research on it. Also, when you are in the levels screen, just try swiping down, you will be shown a roadmap, that is being fetched from the server, and is completely dynamic.
There are very subtle animations that you may not notice. When you are at the place where the wooden monkey face is hanging in on the wall, just try tilting your phone towards the left or right. You will see that monkey face swinging in that direction. Also, there are a lot of such cute animations in the game that I loved when playing. Talking about the gameplay, Patrick Moberg says:
“As you dig deeper, you realize TwoDots simply tips their hat to our first game Dots, but quickly takes the player down a very different and fun path.”
Right now, the game comes with 85 different levels that the player can play. And also, your scores are synced across devices when you connect your Facebook ID with the game. The game also comes with limited lives, which might bother you when you try to play a level again and again. But then, you can wait for about 15 minutes to regain the life, which kind of makes me thinking like I’m playing a Facebook game.
Betaworks, is also trying to monetise with TwoDots. The games features some in-app purchases and upgrades that you can purchase for $0.99. But I’m not a big fan of that feature in any game, since I think it is intruding, and is affecting the entire gameplay, making me quit the game and get back to work, which is in fact necessary. I would indeed pay for this game, instead of using in-app purchases.
Overall, the game is addictive, and you would love this game if you still have Dots installed on your phone.
