This time, Facebook does it Shazam Style

The mobile Facebook experience might have got just a bit better with the latest feature, supposedly to be added to the Facebook app very soon, being a music tracker. The social networking giant said that it is soon to introduce a feature that would recognize the music or TV show your watching while posting from your smartphone.

The feature, to be released on both Android an iOS platforms recognizes music playing in the background or the voices of your favorite TV show characters, while your posting or just updating your status from your handset. The database for song recognition is currently very small and the company hopes to expand it in the near future.

An exciting new thing for your friends would be that if you wish to post the song your currently listening to and use the new feature to do so, they have an option to listen to a 30-second preview of the very song form inside their news feed.

Users might still feel that this is intrusive from the providers side but the company has clarified that it was not recording but just listening an translating the audio. Moreover this is an additional feature and can be switched on whenever required.

This is an interesting move made by Facebook given that they have started to explore a terrain that has long belonged to Twitter. The feature could be expected to be rolled out anytime soon.
