Google Doodle Today – Features Rachel Carson

Today May 27,2014 Google welcomes everybody with Rachel Louise Carson doodle, marking the 107th anniversary of this famous American marine biologist,author and conservationist. Carson’s life works were filled with biology,ecology,pesticides and natural writing. She has the credits of bringing global attention to problems relating with conservation of environment.

Her bestseller in 1951 “The Sea Around Us” won her a U.S National Book Award, bringing recognition to her works. Successive books “The Edge of the Sea” and “Under the Sea Wind” were also best sellers of her time.

The doodle features Carson standing amidst a great land filled with marine,plant life and birds with a notebook, a backpack and a pair of binoculars around her neck. You can find Google written in a calligraphic font right in the middle of the doodle.

It was this women who worked towards direct ban of DDT , while the sad new is Carson did not live to see this. It was in 1972 the Environmental Defense Fund and other allied groups succeeded in securing a phase out to the pesticide.
This led to the Federal Insecticise,Fungicide and Rodenticide Act.

This pretty botanist reached the almighty on April 14, 1964 in Silver Spring,Maryland. It is only Google that can never forget anyone.
