Instant messaging apps are raking in the moolah and apparently the wave is not gonna ebb any time soon. Popular social networking site Facebook is reportedly developing another competitor against contemporaries such as Snapchat and Vine. The app “code-named” Slingshot, is said to be a “video messaging app” that will allow users to click a pic or take a video and send them to a list of friends back and forth.
Apps such as Vine and Snapchat, that have a considerably large fan base, are constantly working on their updates with their most recent ones being Vine Messages and Chat that enable users to send text messages too on the app.
Slingshot might not have any surprising features, with the field already exploited to its full potential, but it is hoped to stay afloat the race with Facebook’s previous ventures Poke and Camera app already shelved within months of release. Sources add that this could have been the aftermath of Snapchat CEO turning down Zuckerberg’s $3bn offer.
The app is said to hit the market anytime in the coming month though there has been no official statement from the popular social networking service provider. Recent times have seen acquisition sprees with Yahoo too making its entry in the self destructing message space following its purchase of Blink, another Snapchat rival. Facebook couldn’t buy’em or beat’em and are now in line for some serious consolation. 😛
