The world’s first Braille phone is out for 60 pounds in UK. Though touch screen mobiles have stole everybody’s hands, it still was not suited for the visually challenged. Most smartphones are given the “Talk Back” option but it doesn’t seem to be of much help to people with visual disabilities.
The UK phonemaker OwnFone has now announced a phone exclusively for the visually challenged with a elevated braille patterns imprinted on them. The front and back panels have been 3D printed. The phone is ideally made to keep the users connected with their family and friends all time.
Tom Sunderland, inventor of the phone says:
3D printing provides a fast and cost-effective way to create personalized Braille buttons, the phone can be personalized with two or four Braille buttons for ease of calling in times of emergency.
The color panels for the phone comes in a variety of colors. Though this was the first braille phone released many prototypes were displayed before. Last year, Indian-based start -up Kriyate developed a prototype of a smartphone with a similar idea featuring a repressible Braille display and feedback controls that beep or notifies after receiving certain commands.
