Apple to acquire Beats for $3.2bn, making it the largest purchase in Apple’s history

Reports have popped up today morning from Bloomberg and Financial Times that the Cupertino based company is all set to buy Beats by Dr. Dre in the coming weeks. The report claims that Dr. Dre and Tim Cook have met to discuss about the acquisition and the value of the deal is expected to be $3.2 billion.

$404 million was the biggest acquisition that Apple made so far. And this happened in the year 1997, when the company acquired NeXT (Steve Jobs). But if the reports are true, Apple’s acquisition of Beats would be the biggest in its history.

It was HTC which was holding a big number of shares in the company so far, but HTC sold out 25% of its share in 2012. But then, it was Beats which broke up with HTC in 2013, after the company bought back $265 million in shares from HTC, making Beats the largest single shareholder.

The currently acquisition that we are talking about is for the Beats audio equipment business and also its newly launched streaming service, that might add up to Apple’s iTunes Radio as well as some of the upcoming music related services from Apple.

Beats’ headphones have always been an amazing experience, and Apple’s EarPods might get a huge boost in its performance with Beats’ technology integrated into it. While this is all that we have, reports claim that there might be some clarity in the deal in the weeks to come.
