You can’t touch this company

In 2011, GreenPeace slammed Apple for being the “lowest user of clean energy”. They claimed that only 6.7 percent of Apple’s data center power use comes from clean energy, meaning wind power, solar energy, hydropower, bioenergy, geothermal power, and marine or ocean wave power. But in under 3 years, Apple raised to 100% use of renewable energy to power it’s cloud data centers. GreenPeace even flew a blimp over San Francisco to celebrate this important milestone in the tech industry. While other tech companies have also started their use of renewable energy, Apple undoubtedly remains the best. Apart from using clean energy, the company has also been praised for reducing the use of conflict minerals in iPhones. They’re a Grade ‘A’ certified company by GreenPeace.

If you know Apple, you’ll know how they’d share this amazing news with the rest of the world! In this taunting ad that have appeared in two British newspapers, The Guardian and the Metro, Apple toys with Samsung on their on-going patent war.  As we saw here in India, it’s a “slap on the face”.

But fun apart, there’s a really amazing ad that was released by them. The entire 2-minute video is narrated by Tim Cook, Apple CEO. It showcases the initiatives taken by Apple to make the company one of the most eco-friendly corporates. The theme here is being “better”. They promise to leave the Earth better than they found it.

Now more than ever we will work to leave the world better than we found it.

It’s definitely worth a watch. The video was first featured in their own website.

The journey does’t end there. Apple has plans for a completely eco-friendly office campus that promises to make a zero percent net increase in CO2 emissions. Now that’s a tall promise to keep. But hey, it’s Apple. The new campus will be named Mothership. Sprawling over a 2.8 million square foot space, the new office will hold over 13000 employees. Located in the hometown on Apple, Cupertino, the entire campus is surreal. Natural ventilation allows air conditioning systems to not be in use for 70% of the time. A huge circular architecture with curved glass walls is enough to drop anyones jaw.
