Smile! You’re on camera!

The movie the Truman Show was a satirical social film that came out in 1998. At that time, this movie, a critical and commercial acclaim, was rated under “science fiction”. Now science fiction movies usually involve technological hokey-pokey that is very intriguing to watch but hard to believe will happen in at least the near future.
Now, man is creative. Anything he dreams, he yearns to make it a reality. The Truman Show that was hailed as a sci-fi movie is now a reality. What started as an idea, that one could be surrounded by cameras at all times- his life be documented at every minute- is now tangible reality. This phenomenon is taking place right now as I sit behind this desk typing these words at my office. I know for a fact that the CCTV camera just below the beam on the ceiling is quietly supervising my work and no doubt relaying it to my boss.
Television shows such as Big Brother, Keeping Up with the Kardashians etc are so popular that the term ‘reality television’ is now a category among the various lists of programs offered by cable operators. Not only in the media, 24-hour surveillance means that even the common man, just like me behind my desk, is subject to constant scrutiny.
It can be argued that this perpetual perusal can be proven invaluable for efficient running of an organization, but to what extent should this be let on is the question.
