iOS 7 – Catching Fire!

Apple’s earning call today showed the latest adoption figure for iOS 7 – according to its own self, apparently alost 80% of the users that are actively using the system are running iOS 7 now whereas like about 17% are still using iOS 6 and 3% using older version of the operating system.

Unlike the Android developer dashboard that is sometimes used to track Android usage, these iOS 7 numbers don’t account for all iOS users, only the most active ones.

Although it is totally unclear if exactly how many of those iOS 6 gadget are capable of upgrading to 7- since iPhone 3GS and fourth-generation iPod touch were both dropped from the iOS 7 support list. And it could even be that those with capable devices still operating in iOS 6 may be holding off due to a specific reason and will be hard to win over. Therefore it would be hard to pinpoint exactly how many and how fast there would be world domination by the 7.

While Apple said that 64 percent of users had upgraded to iOS 7 between September 18 and October 22, that number only increased to 74 percent by December 5. It’s only gone up six percent since then. Some holdouts may be convinced by the upcoming iOS 7.1, which will be the operating system’s first major update. iOS 7.1 is currently in its fourth developer beta and will be released in the coming months.

Apple is quick to point out that its active use numbers for iOS 7 eclipse Google’s for Android 4.4 by a mile, which accounts for only 1.4 percent of Android usage (the highest percentage belongs to Android 4.1, which was released in July of 2012 and has a 35.9 percent share).

It can be seen that 7 is running a slow but steady race to becoming one the most used operating systems in the market. We hope it continues to grow and enthrall us with its colorful mise en scene!
