According to the Wall Street Journal, Google has started taking action to remove Chrome two extensions – ‘Add to Feedly’ and ‘Tweet this Page’ — after they were updated to include code that caused the unwanted pop up of ads.
The developer behind the extension- Add to Feedly; Amit Agarwal, was all mouth about how he had sold the extension for a four-figure sum. Sometime later, the owners of the extension launched at update that would have “incorporated advertising into the extension.”
What is was that, once you added this extension, you had ads in all your chrome pages. In his own words,
“…if the extension is activated in Chrome, it will inject adware into all web pages.”
This came after Google had announced that it would launch a crackdown on extensions that did not have a “single purpose that is narrow and easy-to-understand.” It was meant to include extensions that showed product ratings and reviews, but really just ended up simply injecting ads into web pages.
Usually a pioneer in bringing everything out, some of these extensions ended up becoming so intrusive that Google itself had to go all guns blazing on its Chrome extensions. This is being done to ensure that user experience is free of hassle and lag- because such all-rounder extensions could use up essential space and slowdown browsing!
