Looks like Facebook wants to add some more power to the way people create group conversations. The company today bought Branch, a NYC based company, backed by Obvious Corp., for $15 million. The acquisition was stated to build Branch (their product) at Facebook scale.
Josh Miller, CEO of Branch announced this news on Facebook today. But he did not reveal any information about the money involved in this acquisition. On the other hand, Re/code reports that the acquisition happened for $15 million, along with some packages for Josh Miller and his 8 member team at Branch.
The existing apps which the company owns now, Branch and Potluck, will still have some support from the team. So this looks like a taken acquisition rather than a product acquisition by Facebook.
Branch has been living with investments from Twitter’s co-founders, who are involved in Obvious Corp., and this acquisition is going to be interesting for the end-users, since Branch did something on the lines of bringing a neat UI to the conversations and some innovative methods to bring different conversations together.
If you are interested, just head over to Branch website, and I’m sure you’ll be impressed with their work. Every acquisition has some story or some talent behind it.
