Facebook owned Instagram has started displaying ads in the feed of the users. Michael Kors’s first ladies watch is the first to do a sponsored post with Instagram, that showed up in some of the users’ feed in the US.
Initially, Instagram revealed that the company is looking to monetize its platform by showing up ads in the feed of the users. There was some outrage from the users when the company revealed its plan for pushing ads into the platform. Today, Facebook pushed ads to limited and targeted users in the US to probably test out the response from the users about the ads.
Michael Kors’s ladies watch is the first to be featured in the ad, and this would show up even if you are not following any brand on Instagram. But thankfully, if you are not liking the ads that are showing up, you can always give the photo sharing service some feedback about the ads which you are ok with and which you think is completely irrelevant.
There’s more to these ads. The sponsored post by Michael Kors has been targeted to women in the US who belong to a particular age group. These kind of targeting options might keep you away from these ads for a little while, but ultimately, its coming your way.
Instagram currently has over 150 million active users and is the largest photo sharing service on mobile devices. The service is now owned by Facebook, which acquired Instagram for about $1 billion early this year. On the other hand, Facebook also reported a profit of $425 million in the quarter. Though the earnings are much lesser than the previous years’ earnings, the company is expected to get back up on the profit lane after it starts pushing ads in Instagram, making sure that almost every other users views the ad in their stream.
