LG G-Flex is the first 6-inch truly curved smartphone with ‘self-healing’ feature.

The market is making a shift towards new devices with curved displays. It was Samsung which first unveiled the Galaxy Round, and today, LG has announced G-Flex, a smartphone with a 6-inch screen and a truly curved display.

The rumor mill already had that LG is working on a smartphone with a curved form factor, and its finally true. The company’s new G-Flex is curved from top-bottom instead of the sides, like what Samsung did with Galaxy Round. According to LG, the new device, which is curved has been optimized for an average face.

The G-Flex weighs just 177 grams and sports a 2.26GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with a 2GB RAM and a 13-megapixel rear camera. What’s interesting is the 3,500 mAh curved battery inside the device.

LG has also done some significant improvements to the software that runs inside the device. The new device sports a dual-window application which lets the users take advantage of the curved display and the G2’s KnockON feature is also available in the device. The Flex is hugely inspired by the LG G2, which sports a rear volume up and volume down button.

There’s yet another huge feature that LG has incorporated in the new device. The company has made a self-healing coating to the rear of the device, that would heal itself from minor scratches and other small damages.

LG claims that the device fits well in the pockets of the users, and the company thinks that the curve will not be too much of an issue. At this point, all that we can see is that these kind of devices with curved display are just being experimented and early adopters are going to be the ones who will define its users.

The LG G-Flex is now available only in South Korea and we have no information about the international roll-out.
