Google India officially announced that the Chromebooks are launching in India. The launch will see two variants of Chromebook, one from Acer and the other from HP. The Chromebooks will be available at the Reliance Digital stores and Chroma stores in Delhi and Mumbai starting October 17th.
Google originally announced their plans to start selling Chromebooks, which runs the Chrome OS, by partnering with some hardware manufacturers like Acer and HP, back in 2011. And since then, the company has been making continuous improvements to the Chrome OS, and recently it has ported the OS to Chromecast.
While some people across the world like the concept of Chromebook, the company has decided to start selling these low cost devices in India as well. Previously, if you had to get a Chromebook in India, it was not possible until you hit the grey market or let someone import it for you from the US. But starting October 17th, the Chromebooks will be available at Chroma and Reliance Digital stores in Delhi and Mumbai.
The company revealed that initially, Acer’s C720 and HP’s Chromebook 14 will be available in India for Rs. 22,999 and Rs. 26,990 respectively. Google is also expected to expand the stores that sells Chromebook across the country in the following weeks.
