CyanogenMod to get two versions of ROM to its users: Community and Pro Edition.

CyanogenMod has officially announced that the company will be shipping two versions of their ROM to the users. One version would be called the Community Edition and the other being the Pro version.

The current version, that the users are using is the Community Edition which is for the advanced Android users. But the company is also working on a Pro edition, that will focus on security and bug free ROMs for the not-so-advanced Android users.

CyanogenMod has also revealed some information about the versions that they’ll be shipping, and here’s a quick feature breakdown:

Community Edition:

  • Designed for hackability
  • User debug
  • Signed with well-known keys
  • Root enabled by default
  • Community driven
  • Highly flexible system updater

Pro Edition:

  • Designed for security
  • Signed with private keys
  • Simplified, automatic updater
  • Built on top of OSS project
  • Root is off, but easy to enable
  • New releases every two weeks

While both the editions of CyanogenMod will remain free, the target will be different set of users for these ROMs. Also, CyanogenMod has also promised that the ROMs will be open and free to user forever. This is a really cool move by the CyanogenMod, which recently turned into a company.
