Cue, a personal assistant app acquired by Apple for $40 million.

One of the most beautiful and visually appealing personal assistant app on the App Store, Cue, has now been acquired by Apple for about $40 million, and the app has now been pulled from the App Store.

I’ve been using Cue for a while, and the idea of aggregating information from lot of different sources and offering me a personalized interface with all the tasks I need to do for the day was just amazing. But looks like the app’s developers got some attention of Apple, and as of today, the developers have been acquired by Apple itself.

The acquisition has reportedly happened between $50 million to $60 million. On the other hand, the app’s developers have updated the site with their goodbye note, telling that their premium customers who purchased Cue recently will be offered refund.

The acquisition clearly shows that Apple is serious in competing with Google Now, and making Siri and other personalized features better on iOS. Apple would definitely use the developers’ talent to improve the Today section on the iOS 7’s new Notification Center. Bringing in such integration will give the users some killer features that Google Now offers currently to its Android users.

Apple is not known for making acquisitions of popular companies. But they’re known for making acquisitions that they feel is right, and its only these kinds of acquisitions that Apple is looking at. And mostly, all these acquisitions depends on the developers and their ability to produce quality applications on the App Store.

I won’t be surprised to see these features added to iOS in the releases to come. And I’m sure Siri would be even more powerful with Cue’s integration.
