“BlackDroid”: BlackBerry in the plans of selling itself to Google

The traditional Android logo makes you think of a neon green droid. What if that came in black? Imagine a BlackBerry-Android mashup.

BlackBerry with it’s traditional QWERTY keyboard and box design used to be the most sought after device a couple of years back. Maybe as sought after as flip-phones! But flip-phones are a think of the past. And with BlackBerry eager to find a new owner by next month, it might be a thing of the past too.  With Fairfax already owning the major share of BlackBerry, it is expected that it would be the rightful owner of this Canadian company. But until November 4th, we might not be so sure.

Obviously both these huge companies have a lot to contribute to each other. Android has tried to imitate the design of BlackBerry’s. And even BlackBerry’s have tried to make an Android-ish design for itself. But let’s face it, small screen-physical keyboard-Android or full touch-physical button-BlackBerry doesn’t work out so well. But what could work out for the both of them is their differences.

Android with it’s huge reserve of applications could get BlackBerry back into the loop. Of course there have been specific apps developed for BlackBerry, but how many of them are you actually satisfied with? And yeah you can side load a few Android apps on specific BlackBerry’s. Now if the entire ownership belonged to Google, we could see a few interesting BlackBerry’s in the market soon. Hopefully not as soon as we saw the new Motorola’s.

And if one thing BlackBerry was popular for, it’s how secure their servers are. Now if you ask me, Android really could use a little more security. But then maybe Google doesn’t need another mobile hardware company underneath itself. But maybe Google is thinking on softer lines. And by softer, I mean software. Like BBM? Yeah, it has Hangouts, which can do a lot of things other than SMS integration. iOS has iMessage, and integration seems pretty seamless there. Maybe BBM can provide that missing link.

That would be interesting. “Hi, I just BBM’d you. -Sent from myAndroid”

BlackBerry is seeking out a lot of owners. Cisco, SAP,Samsung,LG. I guess it’s only when you’re on the precipice, you start thinking about what could own you the best!
