BitTorrent Labs introduces BitTorrent Chat – A private messaging service via secure, distributed technology

BitTorrent just introduced a new instant messaging service called the BitTorrent Chat. A new service which allows users to communicate via private messages securely without the need of a cloud.

Ever since NSA’s news broke out to the public, a lot of security companies have been trying to build communication systems that are secure and are reliable. One good example is Helios, a secure IM app from the Co-Founder of The Pirate Bay. Today, BitTorrent has come up with a new, secure chat service, which promises not to store data anywhere in the cloud.

The BitTorrent Chat is currently available in Alpha and you can request to get early access here. The chat service promises that the messages are not stored on the server and are safe from data breaches and prying eyes.

This is not all. The service will be completely free and will use the peer-to-peer encrypted messaging technology to transfer messages to any number of people you want. Using the technology that BitTorrent has pioneered over the past few years, the company’s upcoming chat service might be reliable.

The distrubuted technology, which BitTorrent is using, will have a system that will not have any centralized server that would bypass the messages being exchanged. This technology, works pretty much like the BitTorrent Sync, but is completely real-time and secure.

According to CNET, the BitTorrent Chat client will initially be available for Windows, Mac and Linux, but the mobile applications are also on cards for the company.
