Amazon to donate 0.5 percent of purchase price from ‘eligible purchases’ to charity.

Amazon wants to give something back to the charity. The company has started a new initiative called AmazinSmile, which would donate 0.5 percent of the purchases made via this program.

If you’re interested in donating some amount from your purchase from Amazon to a charity, just go to smile.amazon.com and you will be given an option to choose from a lot of different organizations to which Amazon would send its donations to. Amazon claims that the company has got millions of charities available in their database from which the users can choose from.

One you are done choosing your preferred charity, you will be taken to the regular Amazon checkout page, and at the end of the transaction, you iwll get a message saying that the transaction is complete and that the 0.5 percent of your purchase will be donated to the corresponding charity you choose from.

Amazon also seems to be moving towards a permanent program, instead of a temporary program to promote their brand. The company is definitely looking at a long term program that would do some good stuff to the society. The AmazonSmile also notes that the program is eligible only for selected products, like mp3 players, video content and Kindle books.

All the best Amazon. Good move before the holiday season, and thanks for not having an end date.
