Welcome the Bittorent Sync

Oh, please don’t tell me you haven’t heard the news! In fact, I agree its a little late that we’re covering the news. But, we wanted to know how good the service happens to be. Well, when it is from the family of Bittorent, what more could you expect? So… what is it?

In layman’s terms, until now whenever you wanted to share a file to another guy, you would typically upload that to a cloud service that allows you to share download links. Yeah, of course, there are tweaks here and there as to, you can set sharing permissions, restrict access to the links through email filtering and things like that – the services and customization settings may vary from one player to the other. But, at the bottomline its all the same. Store your files on the cloud and share it to another person.

Things are taking a whole new dimension with Bittorent Sync. There is no cloud. There is no online storage. Its just Bob and Alice! You share a file with one person and he gets to sync his files with yours. The way it works is very simple. You generate a hash for the folder you want to share. Send the generated hash across the other guy who then uses it to sync his folder with yours and kaboom! Both your folders merge and get synced. Only that the service must be running on both ends for the transfer to happen. Apart from that, I don’t see any potential downside to the Bittorent Sync service.

So, no more sign up, no more ‘ETA-to-upload’ and no more ‘Recommend-your-friends-to-get-more-space-spam’ mails. Yay! Best part about it is that its cross-platform, with recent support to ARM, iOS and Android. There is no file limit as well. And on top of that, there is no spooking and hacking your data. All your information that’s being sent across the network is encrypted. So, yeah, on your face NSA!

So this time, we’re not going to ask you how you feel about it. Just let us know how awesome it is, would you?
