Valve unveils companion for Steam Machines, the Steam Controller

The third product from Valve has been unveiled. And that’s a companion for the Steam Machines, which was unveiled earlier this week, the Steam Controller.

Valve has been trying to redefine the way living room gaming works currently. The company believes that the gaming experience is not just about the console and the games that can be played with it. But its about the entire experience for the gamers. Alone with the Steam Machines, and the SteamOS, which was unveiled earlier this week, the company’s Steam Controller looks pretty interesting.

The Steam Controller is a radically designed console controller which works with any PC game and also the games to come in the future. The controller has a circular and clickable trackpads, which gives the gamers ease of use. Talking about the Steam Controller, Valve says:

Whole genres of games that were previously only playable with a keyboard and mouse are now accessible from the sofa,

The image you see below is the new Steam Controller. The center portion of the controller features a touch screen which would allow infinite number of discrete actions that will be made available to the player without the need of a lot of physical buttons.

The Steam Controller is a hybrid version of the current controllers which features the ABXY buttons, and also features the cutting edge software configurable touch screen controls, which we think is something pretty new. Valve has made a choice to make the controller open and hackable, so that it would enable the hackers and developers to literally do anything with the new controller.

All these living room products from Steam are going to re-define the way gaming will be played in the living rooms. We will have to wait until 2014 to see what impact these products would make in the market.
