Ever wanted to just look out from your divers seat in your car, and just have all the navigation information light up on your window? Well, that’s a possibility now! Pioneer introduced a revolutionary device called the NavGate which does exactly this. It is being exclusively released at this year’s IFA in Berlin.
It uses a head-up display (HUD), so drivers can see information without even having to tilt their head away. This, Pioneer takes pride in, since it enables drivers to be more focused on driving. The device attaches itself to the driver’s sun visor to project a 30-inch augmented reality surface in the driver’s line of sight. It uses a Digital Light Processor (DLP) projector and light sensors to dynamically adjust contrast and brightness settings to achieve the least intrusion during driving.
The device pairs up with selected smartphones via USB and utilizes CoPilot and NNG’s iGO primo smartphone apps to display navigation instructions. It provides turn-by-turn instructions, voice commands, red-light-ahead notifications, and even distance-to-destination and ETA’s. And you want to check the time maybe? Yup. The NavGate can project a clock too!
Girish Janday, product executive at Pioneer, said: “Two essential elements for driving are having a clear view on the road and knowing where you’re going. Pioneer’s NavGate HUD has been designed with both of those ideas in mind, ensuring drivers navigate without losing focus, keeping distractions to a minimum. As it’s an aftermarket device, the Pioneer NavGate HUD mounts right onto the car’s sun visor and can easily be removed for theft protection. Its competitive price-point will open up this innovative technology to a broader audience.”
