As expected, Microsoft has unveiled their new Surface line-up today during their Surface event in New York. The company has announced Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, which comes with some improved configuration and much more features.
Even though the original Surface was never competitive in the market, the company has not yet stopped investing in the tablet which is for people who are productive. Microsoft’s two new tablets Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 was unveiled at a special event, which completely stressed about how productive the tablet would be for people who want to be productive, with Microsoft’s Office Suite installed on them, and with a $200GB SkyDrive storage space.
“the most productive tablet ever built” was the statement Microsoft’s Panos Panay made when talking about the Surface 2 tablet. And the Surface Pro 2 comes with an all-day battery life. Let’s now take a quick look at what Microsoft has got for these two new devices:
Surface 2:
The second version of the Surface tablet, comes with a thinner and lighter design, with improved battery life and a better display. The device comes with a two-angled kickstand, which makes it easier for the user to place the Surface tablet on the lap comfortably.
The Surface 2 comes with Windows 8.1, which offers a three-way split screen, and improved performance. The device has been getting minor enhancements in this version when compared to the original Surface tablet.
The Surface 2 is available for $499 starting October 22nd.
Surface Pro 2:
One of the biggest and the most arguable statement which Microsoft said about Surface Pro 2 was about its performance. The company claims that the device is faster than 95% of the personal computers which are available today.
The new device runs on a Haswell processor, bringing in 20% efficiency in the performance and also some amount of weight reduction compared to last year’s.
The device will be available in the market for $899.
Verdict:
Before I close off this article, I’d like to share my personal views on today’s event. I’ve been noticing one thing all along the event, which is Microsoft has gone down. The company has even stopped taking inspiration from other companies like Apple. All that Panos did was nothing but to talk about the performance and the ability for the power users to use the device. My question here is, Microsoft, when a user can perform all these powerful tasks with a simple and usable device like iPad, which is also fun for gaming, why would he even get a Surface Pro 2 or Surface 2, which has apps built by a lot of people to whom’s you’ve been sending gifts?
