The competition is heating up. LG today unveiled its new Android flagship phone, which does not belong to the company's Optimus series. The company is calling the new device the LG G2. The device comes with some cutting-edge technologies and a really good polished look and feel, the refined software and a lot of other user-side features.
LG is doing it this time. The company has put in all the possible highly configured electronics into this unit. With a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor a 2.3GHz quad-core chip supported by a 2GB RAM and a full HD 1080p 5.2-inch 424ppi display, this device is a screamer.
The device also comes with a 3,000mAh batter and a brilliant 13-megapixel camera, and a 32GB of built-in storage, which can be expanded later with a microSD card.
The entire device looks good, and the feel of the device is pretty awesome when in hand. While for some reason, the device has close resemblance to the Nexus, with a fact that the G2 has a volume rocker is placed at the back of the device. The volume rocker is the ONLY button on the phone.
On talking to the people at LG, the company believes that this move would make the smartphone usage less awkward. Also, the company shared the idea of putting some controls in the place where your fingers usually rest, and thus they made the choice of putting the volume rocker at the back of the phone.
While the hardware and the design are amazing, when compared to the company's Optimus series, the software is something which LG has put in a lot of effort at. Features like AnswerMe — which helps you pick up calls automatically when you bring the phone close to your ears, Slide Aside — a feature with which you can slide off the apps from the multi-tasking bar with a three-finger swipe and Guest Mode — which allows the users to access the device to perform certain operations. On the other hand, long pressing the Volume Rocker, which is at the back of the phone, will launch the camera on the phone.
I spent sometime with the phone today, and I should say that the audio quality is top-notch. The G2's ability to handle 24 bit audio is a huge plus. And I think this is the first time a mobile device is doing this. If you are planning to get the G2, then make sure you find audio files of 192kHz to take advantage of this device's audio capability.
This is probably the first time LG is dropping off the Optimus branding from its line-up of devices. The G2 comes in both white and black and G2 will be available starting today. The review of the device will be up in a few days.
