Feedly is probably the only service which is successful after Google abandoned its users by shutting down its Google Reader service. Feedly today announced that they’re opening up their API to the developers who wish to build RSS-based application for the mobile or desktop.
This is a huge step forward for Feedly, considering the popularity it has gained among people ever since Google Reader’s death. In a post on Feedly’s blog, the company explains that they have taken ample amount of time to developer the API, and we are aware that the company has been testing its API with a closed group of developers, including our very own folks at DottedCircle, who’s PaperBoy App for Android is making rounds with Feedly’s API.
With the launch, Feedly reveals that they already have about 50 apps which are powered by the Feedly API, spread across different platforms. The Feedly cloud API is the one which powers the company’s existing features, right from fetching the posts to the search results, that are included in the Feedly’s Pro package.
Feedly has been growing exponentially ever since Google abandoned its Google Reader users. The service now serves more than 12 million users across different platforms. Feedly is now the only company which has offered the API to the developers in the RSS-reader space. While other services like Digg and such are yet to make their service stable.
If you are a developer, then developer.feedly.com is the place to go.
