Google Maps gets live incident updates with its new acquisition, Waze.

Google just announced that their mapping service has been updated with live incident reports, with the help of Waze, the company which they acquired back in June this year.

Google is undoubtedly one of the largest and the best mapping service in the world, and Apple literally failed to compete with the service. But there was one big feature which was not mastered in Google Maps. To bridge that gap, Google acquired the popular crowd-sourced incident and traffic reporting service for mobile devices, Waze, back in June.

Today, Google reported in its LatLong blog that they have integrated Waze’s data into Google Maps for iOS. The apps does not have to receive an update on the devices, but the alerts will popup when you’re taking that route, and when an incident is found in that area.

This is not all. Google has also updated the Waze for iOS and Android app, with a better map editor. The app also let’s you search Google Maps right within the app.

This is a good move by Google since the number of users who rely on mobile mapping solutions are increasing day by day, and with Waze’s integration, Google Maps just got stronger. After a really long while, Google is now trying to monetize its mapping solution with ads in their mobile apps.
