Embark, a public transit information application has been acquired by Apple. This hints that the company might integrate Embark’s technology into Apple Maps.
If you live in the US cities like New York, San Francisco, Boston, New Jersey, Chicago, Washington D.C, then you might be familiar with Embark. Embark has been a popular application on the iTunes App Store, which offers public transit information, and the app has been expanding its presence to different cities in the US.
Today, sources close to Apple has revealed that they have acquired Embark’s entire team, and is looking forward to integrate its technology into Apple Maps. But interestingly, the company has revealed that they’re not disclosing the plans or the purpose whenever they acquire smaller tech companies, which they buy time to time.
Apple has been working so hard to fix its much talked about Maps application, which launched with iOS 6. The company has also acquired some mapping companies like HopStop, which is an alternative for Waze. I’m not sure if the new acquisitions will power up the Apple Maps during the time of iOS 7’s release. But I’m sure that these features will be rolled out slowly to iOS devices and Mavericks’ Maps.
