This is the world’s first fully solar-powered laptop. And they call it SOL

Not all countries in the planet have power. And even those countries have people who’re intelligent and who wants to change the world. Well, in that case, there was a problem. People with an interest to use a computer did not have power to use it. But now, I think these guys have solved it.

SOL is the world’s first solar-powered laptop that was built for the countries with less or no power. The laptop runs on Ubuntu, and sports an Intel processor. The website does not tell much about the configuration of the device, but all that I could see is, something is better than nothing.

The site claims that the device has a high-definition display, definitely not like how the Retina display works, but for a solar-powered device, this might be good. At the point of writing, here’s what I was able to get:

  • Powered by Ubuntu
  • Comes pre-loaded with Office Suites
  • Has a decent RAM with Intel Processor
  • Good Display
  • WiFi (With direct satellite connectivity)
  • 3.5 mm headphone jack
  • External speakers
  • Chiclets keyboard

For a laptop that could run entirely on Solar Power, this might just be the beginning. But I’m still not sure about the cost of the device, and its availability. If you’re interested in this, you might want to bookmark their official website.

They have also put up a video of the new laptop. And here it is for your viewing:
