Recon Jet, a Google Glass alternative will go on sale for $499 this year.

Recon Jet, is probably the best alternative for Google Glass that will ship this summer for just $499. The picture above shows almost all the features the device comes with.

When Google showcased its new invention, in wearable computing, the Google Glass during the Google I/O 2012, the company took the end-users for a ride. The geeks jumped onto the Moscone Center from the top, and walked in into the venue. It was beautiful. And ever since the public showcasing of Google Glass, people have been waiting to witness a working version of the new wearable computers in the mass market.

But looks like the competition is growing and the wait is gradually becoming less. Recon Jet, a new wearable computer in the form of a cooler, will start shipping this summer to the public, for just $499, while the Google Glass is estimated to carry a price tag of $1,500.

The stocks, according to the website is limited initially, but the features looks promising for the device in that price range competing with Google Glass. The makers of the device are also opening up APIs for the developers to make apps work with Recon Jet.

At the point of writing this article, I’m not fully sure about the potential this device has. But the device is going to help a lot of people track their daily routine with a lot of tracking apps in it. The company has also put a video of the device being used by George Hincapie, an American bicycle racer:

The specs reveal that the device has got a lot of sensors, most of them are the 3D sensors, which get more data than the usual sensors. But one of the most interesting part of the spec sheet is the RAM and the processor in it. The device sports 1GB RAM and 1GHz dual-core processor in front of your eyes. Which I think is really cool. And take a look at the Google Glass spec here.

If you’re looking for a Google Glass alternative for a price that’s affordable, then this might be your best bet.
