A video has surfaced on YouTube which showcases the usable version of the Ubuntu phone OS running on a Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
We know that the Ubuntu Phone OS is in development and the new platform has been receiving some good support from the hardware manufacturers as well as from the community for what it does. A new video, posted by Jono Bacon, showcases the capabilities of the current development build of the Ubuntu Phone.
He has also confirmed that the Ubuntu Phone has got Terminal running on it, and functions like apt-get works without pain. This is something none of the other open source phones have done before. For those who’re sticking on to the Nokia N900, which is considered to be the most favorite hacker phone, which is not in development anymore, the Ubuntu Phone could be a perfect alternative.
The UI and other features are definitely compelling and unlike the Firefox OS, which is relying on HTML 5 and other web based technologies, this is turning out to be a real mobile platform capable of competing with the current mobile OS giants. From the video, all that I can see is that the UI is super smooth and it just works as if its running on a high-end hardware.
