‘Facebook is not blocking logins from Tor desperately” – Tor team

Reports of Facebook blocking logins from Tor browsers have been put down by the official Tor team in a report they published a few hours back.

While the entire World is still having their eyes open on the NSA issue and their own online privacy, reports of Facebook blocking logins from Tor browser surfaced recently. Tor, a project that brings anonymity to the citizens of the internet, is being used by people who really care for their privacy. The browser has also been used for a lot of hacking and related activities online.

Considering the factors that these companies, who collect user data for their own purpose, might not favor Tor, the controversy came up when a website reported this move by Facebook.

Soon after the report came out, the Tor team published a report saying that this issue was due to some activities over the Tor exit nodes, and both the Tor team and Facebook team are working together to resolve this issue. Here’s the official Statement from Tor:

“A number of users have noticed that Facebook is blocking connections from the Tor network. Facebook is not blocking Tor deliberately. However, a high volume of malicious activity across Tor exit nodes triggered Facebook’s site integrity systems which are designed to protect people who use the service. Tor and Facebook are working together to find a resolution.”

There’s no ETA as in when the issue will be resolved.
