Darling for Linux runs OS X Apps. Capable of running iOS Apps in future.

Darling is a new open source project like Wine, which is capable of running Mac OS X apps on your Linux machine, opening up a whole new level of possibilities for the Linux users.

While Wine has been a very popular app for the Linux, which runs Windows based apps on your Linux boxes without any issues, Darling tries to do the same for Mac OS X apps. The new emulator adds a layer over the Linux platform to compile the OS X specific binary codes on the Linux machines.

The project is Open Sourced and is at the early stage right now. But there’s also a possibility that the Darling can run iOS apps on your Linux machines, which might not be too long from now. About the status of the app, here’s what their Wiki says:

Not much. You may have a chance to run many console apps, but right now, Darling is still something for hacking and not that much for using.

This would definitely open up a whole new level of possibilities. And we can expect this to go up to run like Wine in future. But if this project goes upto running iOS Apps on Linux desktop or Ubuntu for Phones, that would be killer.

If you’re a developer and would love to contribute to this app, here’s the Github of it.
