Mind what you watch on your BlackBerry Media Player

Be careful the next time you buy a Blackberry phone. Oh hey, are you a very “good” guy (IYKWIM)? Well then, this tip is not for you. I’m more concerned about the naughty ones out there.

Sometime back, the Blackberry announced its new smartphone Z10. Trendy as it seemed to be, the mobile comes with truly great social features. A complete integration of social networks and of course, its celebrated messaging service – the BBM. But this time, with a difference. Just as how there are services in your desktop IM clients to push updates to your social networks about the track being played, BBM will now update your status to what’s being run in its media player. I hope you do realize the implication of the previous sentence.

I wouldn’t bother to take time to write this post, if you are my grandfather. After all, what are you going to be looking at? Concert videos in YouTube may be? No big deal. But, if you by chance run into some XYZ sites, take it from me, you’re damned for sure. The BBM tracks your playlist and puts it up online. The end of everything for you!

Logically speaking, it still puzzles me as to how the Blackberry guys missed it. As a matter of fact, more the half the web traffic goes to the age restricted sites, and smartphones, without a doubt, provide easy access to such portals. And is there someone who would bother to update such stories online?

Our advice

To Individuals : For the ones who do want to buy, or have it with you or still worse, already affected (:D), you may want to tweak your default BBM settings.

To the Indian Government: Do bulk order this phone for your people. It’ll help the citizens.
