Twitter to shut down iOS, Android and AIR versions of TweetDeck

Twitter will discontinue services of TweetDeck on AIR, iOS and Android after learning that their users have preferred the web versions over apps.

According to their blog post,

In many ways, doubling down on the TweetDeck web experience and discontinuing our app support is a reflection of where our TweetDeck power-users are going. Over the past few years, we’ve seen a steady trend towards people using TweetDeck on their computers and Twitter on their mobile devices.

Twitter will pull off TweetDeck from the respective app stores starting may and the services will be shut down soon after. Also, TweetDeck AIR, TweetDeck for Android and TweetDeck for iPhone rely on v1.0 of Twitter’s API which Twitter plans to retire this month. TweetDeck might also experience outages thereafter.

Twitter’s decision to abandon TweetDeck on iOS and Android seems to be a positive move as they will now focus their efforts on development of web apps. They have studied and concluded that investing on these platforms won’t be beneficial in the long run and hence a shift in focus might be the right move for them.

If you use TweetDeck on Android or iOS we suggest you start looking for alternatives.
