Facebook has invited the media to witness their new home on Android, on April 4th in a special event. The company has sparked the speculation of launching their own or a partner owned Facebook phone with all of its social features involved.
The media was pretty calm, talking about the poor sales of Blackberry, Apple’s iCloud outages and such. But it was Facebook which has taken the media by storm now. The company sent out invites, which read:
“come see our new home on Android”
The announcement has created a huge buzz in the industry about the long rumored Facebook phone, which the company is set to have partnered with HTC. The rumor has it that Facebook has actually joined hands with HTC to run a custom Open Source OS, with almost all the social features of Facebook in it.
But then, if Facebook is working on a co-branded smartphone, the news comes in contradiction to Zukerberg’s statement previously, which said that they are NOT working on a co-branded phone. While this is just one perspective of the event. The Wall Street Journal has a completely different perspective about this. They report that the word new home in the invitation could also refer to a new Android homescreen widget or a plugin, which would increase the time people would spend on the service.
At this point, we don’t have a clarity on what the announcement could be. But we’ll be there (YES) at the event to bring all the announcements to you! Stay tuned!
