Speaking at the National Editors Conference, Union Minister of Communications and IT Kapil Sibal rekindled the hope for the Aakash tablet announcing that working on the third and fourth iterations of the tablet.
Datawind, the firm responsible for manufacturing the tablet, is hoping to renew its contract with the HRD to make the ultra-low cost tablet. Despite this Aakash 3 is a go and can be expected to launch around August 2013.
The companies have been facing huge demand, which coupled with production issues is causing the tablet to be unavailable. 17,100 devices have been delivered to IIT-Bombay while the remaining 29,400 devices expected to be delivered within the coming weeks.
