With over 60 million users, Outlook.com comes out of Preview, kicking out Hotmail.

Microsoft today officially announced that their long standing Hotmail is no more, and it would be Outlook.com from now on. The Outlook.com, which was in a preview mode for sometime, now comes out with over 60 million users using the service.

Talking about this move, Outlook.com’s Director of Product, Mr. David Law said:

“Today is a major milestone in our mission to provide people everywhere with the world’s best email experience,”

Microsoft has also released a new ad, which depicts the social networking functionality of the new service. Outlook.com not only comes with the email functionality, but also has deeper integration with Skydrive and Other important Office Functionality. Here’s the video ad that Microsoft has rolled out for Outlook.com:

The company is also planning to run a global marketing campaign for Outlook.com and is expected to roll out this month. Also, David Law revealed that the new Outlook.com comes with about 60% reduced ad contents, which would indeed be relavant to their friends’ contents.

If you are a long term Hotmail user like Dwarak, then you’re going to be sad. The Outlook.com, with a metro UI and much fluidic interface is all set to take the place now, forcing people to forget Hotmail. There are going to be some issues in this migration*. Outlook.com is also expected to scale up to over 300 million users, beating Yahoo! Mail.
