Nokia has already started rolling out the Windows Phone 7.8 update for the Lumia devices across the world, over the course of February. While the Unlocked phones would receive the updates first, compared to the carrier locked devices.
If you see a message saying that your Lumia device has got an update, you shouldn’t be surprised. Nokia is finally giving life to the devices that Microsoft called Legacy devices across the world, with the Windows Phone 7.8 update. The update is rolling out slowly throughout the world, and the users would get a notification about the update on their device.
While the users were expecting the users to receive the Windows Phone 8 update, Microsoft disappointed the users by calling them legacy devices during the Windows Phone Summit. Even though the Windows Phone 7.8 users will not have all the completely re-written code, with all new features, they would get some features like the live tiles, improved sharing options, customizable start screen and new build-in apps.
Talking about the Windows Phone 7.8 update, Nokia says:
“You can transform your Nokia Lumia with a host of exciting new personalisation features, such as the ability to resize your tiles, new lock screen options, and more theme colours.”
Nokia has recommended its users to keep their Notifications enabled. The users will not be able to do a OTA for this update. Lumia users will have to connect their devices to the Zune Desktop software to update their phones. The long wait for the update is now over.
Apart from this news, BlackBerry 10 is now out, and this would put quite a bit of competition to the Windows Phone users in the market.
