Oh wait. Are you seeing something different? Boy, I can’t get much happier than this. After weeks and weeks or working on the new design and content strategy, the final version if now live. And now, I’d love to give you a peek at what’s new at Geek Center.
All New Design
Starting today, you might see that the site has undergone a tremendous change. This is the major update that Geek Center has got ever since its launch. The new design is completely responsive, fast, elegant, optimized for all the readability clients and much much more.
Firstly, the site now works seamlessly on the smartphones and tablets of all platforms. There are some Easter eggs that I’ve placed for the smartphones. Try to find em’.
Posts page was another section of Geek Center which received a major update. You’ll start to see more of media content, rather than just the textual contents. And the review pages are going to be enhanced too. Since this involves some manual work, it might take a week for these migration to complete.
Site Speed
This is yet another update which I carefully worked on. The idea was to strip down unwanted areas of the site to make Geek Center load faster on EDGE and 3G networks. And since my country has some restrictions for the amount of data I consume on the mobile, I also wanted to reduce the size of the site as much as possible. And now, I’m happy to inform that Geek Center would load 28% faster than the previous version and consumes about 42% less data than before.
Voice Search
This is one feature that I’ve always wanted to implement on the site, and I’m proud to announce that Geek Center has got partial voice search installed in it. Right now, the Voice Search is available only for the Chrome users. I’m bringing it to the other browsers too pretty soon.
Featured App Section
This is a widget that sits firmly on the sidebar. Geek Center chooses the most noteworthy app, not from the iTunes Store, but from the feedback given by the users on various social network. Ultimately, these developers are brilliant, but they usually go unnoticed. Geek Center wants to stop this.
Handbook
I’m currently working on this section. The Handbook are tailor-made complete guides for using a particular module on a mobile ecosystem or a desktop ecosystem. These handbooks would be available for free, initially.
Noteworthy
This section is something which I’ve always wanted to build, to concentrate on those apps, which are beautiful, functionally and highly recommendable, but are not on the top charts in the App Store and Google Play Store.
These are just some of the features that I’m rolling out with this release. There’s definitely more to come.
