Instagram, the Facebook owned popular photo sharing social network reaches 100 Million active monthly users. It was announced in a recent blog post by the company. The blog post also has some interesting stories on how some of its users use it for their business and about how some of the users are trying to change the world with it.
10 Million active users is certainly a magical number for Instagram which is a mobile app available only on ios and android devices, it doesn’t allow users to register for the service or upload photos on the web. Instagram web profiles are only meant to view, like and comment on photos and to edit the user profiles.
Instagram which was launched in October 2010 was initially available only on ios devices before the app was launched to the android users only in April 2012. The ios app and android app launch have certainly helped Instagram grow its user base rapidly. The android app was downloaded 1 million times in less than 24 hours of its launch. With their mobile apps yet to come on windows phones and blackberry, this user base is yet to rise. Also a web app for normal smartphone users would certainly help them to gain many more active users.
The company which was acquired by Facebook 10 months ago also reports that 40M photos are posted to the service daily with its users gaining 8500 likes and 1000 comments per second.
