Canonical to release first Public developer preview of Ubuntu Phone on Feb. 21st

Ubuntu Phones have already created a buzz, and I think they’ve thought out of the box in making the app switcher, and also the entire concept of using smartphone. Here’s a good news for the Ubuntu fans and those who’re fed up of getting adopted to the current mobile operating system. Canonical, the company behind the Ubuntu Phone has confirmed that the first ever Public Developer Preview of the Ubuntu Phone Images would be available for download from February 21st.

While many others fail to keep up their promise to deliver customer products on-time, Canonical seems to be clear and well planned in getting the Ubuntu Phone out to the customers within their promised timeline. Ubuntu Phones are expected to be out in the retail version by October this year, and the early developer preview makes sense, since the company will have a lot of time to test and develop apps for the new operating system.

The official press release from Canonical clearly states that the release is only for the spare hands, and for the early adopters who would like to get their hands-on with the OS. The company would be seeding two ROMs, one for the Galaxy Nexus and the other for the LG Nexus 4. The source code of the builds will also be seeded during that time, and this is going to open up a lot of possibilities for the developers and hackers.

Ubuntu Phone’s security features is still a question, and the public developer preview will throw more light on how the OS is going to compete in the market. If you are really keen in trying out the Ubuntu Phone on your Nexus device, be sure to take a look at this article, which has the instructions about flashing your device to install the Ubuntu ROM.

We’re going to be going hands-on with the OS as soon as it comes out on February 21st, and we think its going to be a whole new experience.
