BUDGT is a super simple Budget tracker for your iPhone.

The financial year is about to complete, and I’m going on a strict money diet from now on. But then, I found it difficult to track my expenses with the current set of expense tracking apps that are available in the App Store. That is when Vinay introduced me to BUDGT, an app that is simple, minimalist, really functional and does what it promises to do.

I have used some of the popular financial apps that are in the market, and it has always been easy to spend but not to track the expenses with these apps. Every app wanted me to enter some granular details every time, and the apps usually had a confusing UI, which would show a lot of analytics data. Infact, some apps prompted me to send the data to the server for better analytics. I was like, “No. Thanks! I really don’t need them. All I need is a very simple app which allows me to add my expense very very quickly.” Now, my search for the perfect app, that is very simple to use, quick, and minimalistic ended with BUDGT.

The app has a minimalist UI, with a beautiful typography, that is really appealing. BUDGT is very simple to use, and the app has been developed in a way that it makes the user feel that its easy to use, but internally, its very powerful, and does not compromise on any of the major features that a financial app could have. We will now drill down the functions the app could do for you:

  • Set Budget
  • Set Scheduled Budgets
  • Add Expenses in Foreign Currencies
  • Categorize Expenses
  • Get a Beautiful Pie Chart of the expenses
  • Travel Mode
  • Daily Reminders

Ease of Use:

Minimalism has become a major feature with BUDGT. The app brings in a lot of new easy to use feature, and one such feature that’s worth highlighting is the ability to add two zeros at once when adding Budgets and expenses. So, say I want to addRs. 20,000 as my Budget for the month, all I need to do is just tap on the Two Zeroes twice, and just press the Delete button once, to remove the extra zero. And that’s it, I just entered 20,000 into my Budget Screen.

The next major feature that I wanted to highlight here is the ability to view the expenses in a really simple and easy to understand Pie Chart. The chart sits on the homepage. The best part here is, the main Pie Chart would display the total amount spent over the total budget which you’ve set. But there’s more. Just swipe from bottom to up, and its going to immediately show a pie chart which breaks down on the type of expense you’ve made. I think that’s brilliant.

Now, let me talk about the Recurring Expenses. The recurring expenses are those which you can tell the app to schedule those expenses to occur at regular intervals, and boy it works seamlessly. The next feature turned out to be an important one for me, the Travel Mode. The travel mode actually converts your expenses from the foreign currency and tracks it into your home currency. Thanks to the developers for building a built-in currency converter for BUDGT.

Now that I’ve been talking everything positive about the app, let me now tell you why the app has got some more features to be improved.

Room for improvement:

The app has just begun, and I’m really happy about the way the app has been designed and the way it works. But now, one area where I think the app could improve, is the confusing nature of editing an expense. I found everything to be simple, but then, I was pretty confused about the ability to edit an existing expense that I’ve set.

Why we recommend BUDGT:

Me and Vinay has been getting hands-on with it for a while now, and we think the app was brilliant. We will definitely continue to use the app for our expense tracking and we’ve been recommending the app to out friends too.

As you know, only the apps that are really really good, and makes sense for the users get into 4CAST’s reviews, and we love the reviews we do. And BUDGT was in no way short of innovation via minimalism. We wish the developers a really great year ahead.
