Put a Menu shortcut for ‘Disk Eject’ in your Mac.

This tip will enable you to eject a CD/DVD from your Mac machine, by clicking on a button on the Mac’s Menu Bar, which sits at the top. Here’s how to get that button on the Menu Bar.

Mac is really very powerful, and I love the way it handles the file system. But then, for beginners like my brother and parents, it is turning out to be difficult to  perform regular tasks like ejecting a disk, and un-mounting a DMG file. On digging further on this, I found that there’s a better way to eject disks on the Mac.

Even though we are in the age, where everything is digital and where CD/DVDs are dying, this trick would be of help if you use the CD/DVD drives on your Mac.

Place a Disk Eject shortcut in Mac’s Menu Bar

  1. Press Cmd+Shift+G or Go to Finder > Go > Go To Folder
  2. Now, Type /System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/. This will bring up a list of files that actually has an effect on the Mac’s Menu bar.Screen Shot 2013-01-13 at 4.47.11 PM
  3. Look for the file named: Eject.menu. This is the file which would place the shortcut on the Mac’s Menu bar.
  4. All you need to do after locating the file is to just Double Click the Eject.menu file, and boom, you’ll see the Eject icon on the Menu bar.Eject Menu in Menu Bar

Hope this helps.
